Naked cards

Before you start to wonder whether my cards have taken an incredibly unexpected turn towards nudes, I can confirm it’s the cards themselves that have become naked, not the illustrations!

Inspired by the Naked Cards movement, I’ve been trying to take steps to make my paper business a bit more environmentally friendly.

I no longer use plastic cello bags for individual or card packs. Instead, I use patterned paper bands, made of 150gsm recycled silk paper, sealed with a sticker to keep the card and envelopes together.

Admittedly, I was a little bit nervous before I made the jump:

  • would the cards be ruined by rain?

  • will the card or envelope get mucky or damaged?

  • what if the envelope creased?

It seems I wasn't the only one to have these worries, and the Naked Cards website has a wonderfully helpful FAQ page that put my mind at ease!

Along with ditching the cellos; all my envelopes, business cards and note cards are made with recycled paper. The cards themselves are not made of recycled paper, but they are fully recyclable and FSC certified.

The move to eco-friendly is still a work in progress, as I’ve always added a sprinkling of confetti to each order, and I still have a packet or so to go. My thoughts are that the only thing worse than single use plastic, is never-used plastic, so I’ll carry on including these until I run out.

Lastly, my art prints. I will continue to use cello slips for my art prints, as many of these are intended as gifts and I want to guarantee that they arrive in pristine condition. I use matte giclée paper for my prints, so although I hope you don’t buy these with the intention of throwing them away, should you want to change up your decor, they are recyclable.

As the Naked Cards site states, the aim is to reduce plastic, one card at a time! So, I’ll carry on making steps to make my paper goods more environmentally friendly.
